John Steinbeck was born on February 27,1902, in Salinas, California. In 1919 he graduated from Salinas High School. After this Steinbeck attended Stanford University. He left Standford permanently in 1925 to pursue his writing in New York. But however, he didn't success in getting any of his writing published and finally returned to California. John Steinbeck published his first novel(Cup of Gold) in 1929, but it attracted little attention. After that "of mice and men" (1937) was his first comercial success, followed up by "the grapes of wrath."John Steinbeck was married three times in his life, and his second marriage resulted in two kids. In 1962 he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature. He died December 20, 1998, in New York City.
